QUEENSLAND ELECTIONS.
LABOII PARTY IN POWER. By Cable—Press Association— Copyright. Received May 24, 11,5 p.m. Brisbane, May 24. The latest returns show a slightly improved Liberal position, and indicate 49 Heats for Labor and 23 for the Liberals, though a number are still capable of alteration. Apparently the only Ministers who will survive are Messrs Tolmie (Lands) and Colonel Rankine (Railways). The chances of the others appear beyond hope, and recognising tho position as hopeless, Mr. Denham (the Premier) sent in the resignation of the Ministry. The Governor, on Mr. Denham's advice, sent for Mr. Ryan, leader of the Laborites, to form a Cabinet. Prominent politicians incline to the belief that tho disastrous debadfi g? tt« Liberals is chiefly due to two factors, the high cost of living and hostility to the compulsory clauses of the Elections Act. A Socialist candidate, while the elections were in progress, had a paralytic seizure, and died in a few hours.
