Oflieial: Tile enemy made a thrust at the Galician front on Friday, but there are now signs that it is weakening. The defensive was assumed on several sections. i\Ye assumed the offensive on the left bank of the lower San and carried several villages and repulsed a counter-attack in the direction of Xisko. We carried in the enemy's salient on the right bank of the San the village of Ignatse, northward of Jaroslav. The enemy eastward of Sussakow carried a portion of our trenches, the Russians counter-attacking and taking 100U ■prisoners. The enemy's attacks remain'«d on the Galician frontier, after enormous losses, of a more isolated character. The Russians took hundreds of prisoners in the Slonsko district and txvo enemy companies surrendered. The enemy on the Xarev front carried out partial counter-attacks to accustom the troops to the use of poisonous gas. The enemy i s reinforcing the defeated elements at Opatow from Galicia.

The Russians, fi Siting stubbornly, advanced on the Mitau line from AVindau to Dubissa. (in the Riga district), on a front of sixtysix miles, hurling back the Germans a tremendous distance with enormous hi'-sos.
