ELECTORAL.
BAY OF ISLANDS CAMPAIGN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May '2i. The Hon. A. L. Herdman opened the Bay of Islands campaign on behalf of Mr. Stewart, the lleform thirty's selected candidate, at Kawene. He regretted that Parliament and the 'country wore to he denied the services of Mr. \crnon Reed. The Minister described tin; conditions in New Zealand arising out of the war, and said that thanks to the prudent steps which had been taken by the Administration we bad l not only been able to play a part in the actual struggle with considerable success and great credit, but the business of the country had been carried 011 w\t f h complete success, and the people were probably more prosperous than ever in the history of the Dominion. Mr. Herdman detailed the steps taken by tiie Government to guard against unemployment, and concluded by explaining the Government's naval policy. He paid a glowing tribute to the British and Australian navies. A vote' of confidence in the Government was carried.
