LEAPS FROM TRAIN. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Timaru, Mav 21. Last evening a youth, who had escaped from the Burnham Industrial School and wis being taken back from Invcrcargill 011 the second express in charge of a constable, leapt from the train between Timaru and Smithfield. When the train reached Temuk-a the police at Timaru were informed, and went out expecting to find him lying injured, hut saw nothing of him. To-day it was ascertained that the young man called at a house some little distance from the line and said he had fallen from the train. He was given refreshments and his Wounds were dressed. He appeared to Imvc broken his arm and his face was cut. The search has been proceeding all day. SUPPLIES OF COAL. Weatport, Last Night. The Hon. Mr. Herries arrived at W'e.stport 011 Saturday morning and inspected the railways and conferred with the Harbor Board in the afternoon. In the evening he met deputations in the town hall. The main question was the importation of coal. The Minister asid he was taking 80,000 tons of coal for the railways this year from the coast, as compared with 7-1,000 tons last year, and would take more if the companies met him in regard to the price. The Minister left to-day for Murc.hison.
