THE HUNT.

AN ENJOYABLE MEET. Quite the best meet of the season took place at Mr. L. Jennins' farm yesterday, when there was the largest gathering of followers and spectators. Hares were fairly] numerous and three kills weri recorded during the afternoon. The first run, starting at the back of -Mr.-Spencer's property, took the .pack right to the town boundary of Waitara, where puss was lost in the big garse, on the beach. On returning, a fresh hare was soon afoot, which gave a fast and long run, over some very bier country, and when the mounts of the straight goers were perceptibly tiring, a kill was registered in a field of turnips and kale owned by Mr. Spencer. The huntsman and whip here changed horses, and on moving into Mr. Blackley's paddock the hounds gave tongue immediately, and throughout the whole of the afternoon their merry chorus never ceased, except when two more kills took place. Some really fine displays of wire fence jumping by some of the more seasoned hunters were seen during the chase. The •big solid fences around Messrs Borthwick's holding paddocks were "taken on" and negotiated without a single wire being broken. It is only Aiir to state that Messrs Cyril Stockman, Duncan Laing (Inglewood), Noithcotc, and one or two others on comparatively green horses jumped these fences.

■Several new horses were seen out. They shaped well, and the owners are recommended to put them to plenty of schooling work at home, so that they will take a more prominent place in the field in due course. Amongst the ladie 1 , mounted were noticed Mrs. B. Pepperell, Mrs. N.. Pepperell, Airs. Hansen, and Mrs. Daveney and niece. The -Misses Wheatley were driving. Mrs. Kibby and party were motoring, as were also vice-presi-dent E. I<\ lilundell and A. ]j. Humphries, accompanied by Mesdnmes jlookhuui and Kulloit. Dr. Valintine (Inspector-Gener-al of New Zealand Hospitals) was an interested spectator on horseback, likewise President Wheatley and Sir. AV. Harris. The usual well-known straight gogrs were present on their accustomed mounts', and amongst the newer members were Messrs O'Nei! on Larrikin, :Mackie on Hiss Potae, iStoekman on Wild- Hose, Davis (Inglewood) on (10-on, D. Laiiig on a Captain AVehb mare, A. ■Crawford (Stratford) on Jorrocks, J. AA r ade on Millbanks, and a few others. Afternoon tea was provided hy Mr. Jennins, and Deputy-Master Chaney wound up the day with thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Jenniis for their hospitality.
