NOTES BY MOTUROA. (Special to News.) Wanganui, Last Night. The proceedings opened with the Borough Handicap. Coldstream and King Chiara were the only withdrawals, thirteen horses going to the post. The public sorted them out well, Bimeter and Hoy being the best backed. Veroneal made the most of the running, but the favorites had the finish to themselves, Bimeter winning comfortably. Playoff was fourth and Avon Park fifth. All started in the Hack Steeple, Grey Renown, Sandy Paul, and Soporific being evenly bucked. Agatha Green and Sandy Paul fell early. Soporific assumed command at the end of a mile, and won easily. Dorando, Sandy Paul, and Leapuki dropped out of the Wanganui Steeple, and Addnmiglit carried slightly more money than The Pole, Daylight Bill, and Vestal. The race was just as much a procession as in Jaekman's year, Daylight Bill by beautiful jumping getting to the front early and never leaving the issue in doubt. The Pole, Appin, and Sportsman fell. Daylight Bill hud tin race won at any stage. Jackman finished veiy strongly, and should win good races this winter. The Kaitnkc Hurdles resulted in a boil over. Birkful was a screaming hot favorite, but he cut up badly. Toreador

and St. (late wore responsible for the early running, but Awaliou, whose jumping was very erratic, made up ground between the hurdles, and was in front at the home bend. Boon made op considerable "round in the straight, but Awaliou still held a slight advantage at the finish. St. Gate ran a good race, but easy hurdles gave poor jumpers the advantage. Toreador failed to stay, and | the well backed Vascular was in trouble very early, -folic Fille was fourth.

The Century Hurdles saw the Tar.inaki horse Styrax put the seal on a career that was always marked by consistency. Hereford was a good favorite, and Waipunoa, who could not win a hack race at Hawcra recently, was strongly supported. Queen's Post, by superior pace and not by good jumping, led practically all the way, but Styrax, who was always handy, beat her home by less than a length. Black Northern was running all over the field at the finish, and should have won. Then came Waipunoa, Cienorchy, and Cloudy Dawn. All but Merry Roe faced the barrier in the Conoily Handicap, Emporador being odds on favorite. Bonny Rigg made the running for half a mile, with Maniaroa and Lady Louisa bandy. Riiiper;.dor had a bad passage, and could not get up. Lady Louisa finished strongly and beat Maniaroa comfortably. Bonny Rigg was a close third, with Emperador, Tinopai, and Bonny Helen next.

Glacier and Bivouac were the only] scratchings in the Purua Hack Handicap, twenty going to the post. Gallupin and Client carried most of the investments. Danger Signal and (iallupin made the early running, but in the straight Salvia and Client fought out a desperate finish, Client winning by a bare length.. Cold Fran, who had bad luck in the running, was a close third. NORTH OTACO MEKTIXO. FIRST DAY'S RACING. Oamaru, Last Night.
