Mr. E. T. Spray, of Tariki, returned yesterday morning, after a holiday trip to Auckland and the Thames. Mr. J. Montgomery, of New Plvmouth, who lias volunteered for the front, will leave for Trentliam by the mail train to-morrow morning. ' The many friends of Mr. W. J. Chancy (who recently underwent a serious operation in the New Plymouth Hospital) will be pleased to know that he lias sufficiently recovered to be about again. Mr. Robert 8011, of Ashburton, one of the delegates of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association to the International Press Congress at San Francisco, sailed by the Niagara yesterday. Mr. li. W. Fisher, of Pukckohe, late assistant engineer to the Franklyn County, and who succeeds Mr. Brand) as inspector on the staff of the Taranaki County Council, will arrive in New Plymouth on Friday.
Mr. 0. Wilkinson, who contested the Bay of Islands seat in Kill and )!>M, states that lie will not be a candidate at tin? coming by-election, says a Press Association telegram from Auckland.

Mr. !!. ,L. M. Kitto, manager at Napier for the Xew Zealand Loan and ■Mercantile Agency Company, has received notice of his promotion to the position of manager of the Christchurch branch, rendered vacant bv the death of Mr. D. A. Baxter.
