WANG AN Ul. NOTFS. (By "Motuna.") Wanganui acceptances should appear this ii,';, rniii.", and, nlilmugh not available at (lie time of writing, indication,, are not wanting that the'lists will be verv satisfactory. Not nianv Taramik: horses have be. ii railed through us yet, but the Auckland contingent is a very big one—probablv the biggest that ha., ever come to thc'llivor City. It include.Black Northern. Tinopai, Toreador, Salvia, .lolie i'ille. Merry Hoe, Vestal, king Lupin, Gold Fran, and. others. The Canterbury horses already at Wang.mui include Fmpcrador, Banksia, Dimeter, Corrie, Daylight Hill, Snowraker, The Pole, l!unnv'lliggvaml lesser lights. Although not c'.ig.igecl at the meeting, 111 (.'alio is being worked at Wanganui, and other visitor* are Appin, Golden Glow, Royal Dragoon, Multiply, Tahora, Haurakia, Birkful, Awahou, Addnought, Maryland, etc. The local brigade include Borando, Arunke, St. Gate, Furoco, and a crowd
of squibs. The writer has been on the course during the last few mornings, and a fewnotes on the work and condition of the chief horses may be interesting:— Black Northern is going great {finis, fie was jumped yesterday (Monday) in company'with Jolie Fibe and Toreador, beating the pair badly over two rounds. He was then sent, a round on the flat, lending Salvia home over the last four furlongs. MePlynn rode the Century Hurdles candidate, and bis fencing was perfect.
Toreador still shows- some pace, but is a regular "musical box." He jumps well with the pace on. Jolie Fille looks fit, but her jumping is not up to requirements. She tfels over carefully, but is altogether too slow.
Corrie looks as fit as anything on the tracks. She is a clean-legged mare, and shows great quality. It is a treat lo see the way she spins along over a couple of rounds. 1 have not seen her jumping, but possibly she will be given a flutter on Tuesday morning. Daylight Bill and The Pole were companions in a (bitter over two rounds of big country yesterday morning, the grey (Daylight'Bill) having all the better of the argument. The Pole is only a handful, and he doesn't like the brush. He ran off at the second of the double each time round yesterday, On Saturday he performed a marvellous feat, and how he escaped being killed was wonderful. He was racing at a brush fence near the jockeys' number board, and ran oil', jumping the picket fence and landing on his right shoulder on the lift, concrete path inside the enclosure, lie knocked several pickets oli' both fences and then slid along the concrete for several yards. His rider, McFlynn, who did not have a skull cap on, had .in equally marvellous escape. When the horse rose at the picket fence the girth broke and McFlynn was Irarld rigiit over the two picket fences and got oil' with a shaking 1 .. The spectators all closed their eyes, you can bet your life! Birkful is a great big horse, a typical Birkenhead, and lie moves strongly each morning.
Awahou is the worst jumper on the course. He "shivers" when he nears a fence, and gets over like a rattled frog. Snowraker is another wretched jumper, She takes her fences sideways, and swings her hind legs across like a high jumper.
Addnought is looking well, and went three rounds at a soiid pace yesterday.
St. Gate went twice round under a strong; pull. He is a much improved horse, and will run prominently at the meeting. Emperador looks well, though he has not been stretched out so far. Bimcter also seems fit. The third member "f the team, Banksia, is very light. King Lupin and Tinopai were responsible for good working gallops over six furlongs on Morning is due to-night. Mr. Hawkin's Marcovil is a compact looking customer, but a very lazy worker. Royal Dragoon is going well. Tahova turned a ''sevener" at the log fence yesterday. Peg is reckoned an unlikely runner at the meeting. Vestal is doing long, strong work, and is a good jnnrk for the big steeple. • Appin is jumping perfectly. Dorando is doing all that his party could desire, and is apparently quite sound. ' Bonny Kigg is a tall, herring-gutted filly, and her style of galloping is not particularly impressive. Bonny Helen is reported to be going along nicely at Fordell. Doon makes a noise while galloping. Semolina bears a dried-up appearance.
