WINBUK SURRENDERS. BRITISH PROTECTION PROMISED. Capetown, May 14. At Okahandja General Botha arranged for the Burgomaster of YVinbuk to hand over unresistingly. A proclamation regrets the Germans' decision to continue the struggle to an end, which it is plain will entail much misery and distress to civilians, but the latter can rely on the protection of Britishers and remain in their homes and carry on business. GENERAL BOTHA'S SUCCESS. London, May 14. Sir George Reid (High Commissioner for Australia) and the Hon. .Thoma* Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand) telegraphed congratulations to General Botha on the success of his operations.
