.MONTHLY MKIiTINO. The ordinary nt.vnthly meeting of the Moa Road Hoard was held at Inglewood in Salurdav, when there were |uc.-cirt: Messrs 11. Trimble...l. i.\. llridg i. W. C. Shoomark. Ceo. Capper, I'luigh. J Williams, M. Ilopson and A. E. I.iiiireuce. The returning (VTiioer notified that .Messrs Bvidgonum, 'llopson, Slnomaiiv. Clou-di and Williams had been elected to liie Board. Mr. If. Trimble was unanimously reeled ed chairman, arid in returning I hanks expressed the hope tlia( all would work together for the benefit of the ratepayers.

The NVaro road hud been rolled and blinded for a distance of SO chains at, a cost of .Is Sd 'per chain. Twenty-five chains of the Boss road had been re-mctalled and rolled, and 2-1 chains scarified and rolled, at a, total cost of Lis .Id per chain. Maintenance work had also been effected on the Mntukawa, Mima, Kupara and Mangaotea. roads.
AN APPRECIATION. MY. F. Gladding, on behalf of the settlers of the Ngaro road,-thanked tile Board for the good work done oji the road by the stall' under the sujicrvision of their most capable engineer. The j work was a credit to him, anil words I could hardly express how the road was I appreciated. . THE PIPE SITE. Some discussion ensued over the pipe site, about which there was some tlilliculty relative to the storage »r pipes. Tile chairman stated that he had given instructions for the blackberries to be cut. It was stated that the Board did not possess a key to the gate, which was always kept locked. Tt was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Capper and Shoemark. that the Board's solicitor be instructed to write to Mrs. Tarry notifying that in future the Board intends to enforce the agreement between 'Mr. Tarry nnd tlie Board, I especially as to the Board's right of ingress and egress.
It was suggested by Mr. Capper that other sites might be procurable. Members were of opinion that it would be better to wait until the petition re formation of a county was dealt with. Should a county be formed it would be necessary to procure a .site for offices and plant as well.
LOANS. The Treasury notified Hint £2lfio (half-yearly interest .IMS 12s) had been written oil', as twenty-six years had elapsed since its inscription. The Hoard's inscribed debt now stood at .CIKMT!) fis 8,1, and (he half-veafly interest at £llßs lr.s 3d. MONTHLY .STATE STENT. The monthly statement showed 'that receipts had amounted to £24 fis I Oil (rates £2l Ss )0d). Expenditure amounted to £28.1 3s 2d (roads £IBO fis Id. wages C7."i 12s lid). 'Hie Hank account showed a credit of £11(11 5s 2d. OARTAtTE WITH BULLOCKS. Mes-rs 'Rowan and Thomason, contractors, asked permission to be allowed to use bullocks to ca>t about (K) cord of wood along about half a mile of the Durham road. They stated that they would limit their load and pay compensation for damage. The chairman stated that the. cartage would ruin the road, and that any compensation would have to allow jor remetalling.
'The deputation pointed out flint t'hoy would do certain damage if thev used horses.
Mr. Laurence opposed the permission. It was impossible to keep bullocks on the metal, and the water-tables were ruined.
The chairman asked if it Would be better to strictly enforce the 'heavy tiilflic'bydaws re weight of load, or make some arrangement with the contractors to supply a certain quantity of metal. Even if the load were limited, the contractors would he liable for any damage to the-road. On the motion of Messrs Laurence and Shoemark, if was resolved to inform the applicants that the 'Hoard prohibited ibiillocKs. but would allow (if) cords ot wood to he carted with horses, in onecord loads, provided the contractors placed 211 yards of bouldeis on the roadside.
