PERSONAL.

Mr. Justice Edwards is due to arrive m New Plymouth on Monday. Mr. T. C. Savage, surgeon, Auckland, will leave New Zealand shortly for service at the front. Mrs. McLean, formerly resident in Morley Street, New Plymouth, died at Wanganui yesterday. Captain J. B. Hine, M.P., who has been taking part in the Territorial camp work at Waverley, returned home yesterday. Ifr. J. T. M. Ilornsby, M.P., together with Mi's, and Miss Ilornsby and Miss Mair, will spend the week-end in New Plymouth.

Constable T. Fitzbibbon. of Inglewood, has been -promoted to the position of plain-clothes constable at Xew Plymouth. Constable Ijongbottom, of Levin, has been transferred to Inglewood to fill the vacancy there.

The llawera Star understands that Dr. MacDiarmid has offered his services to the Defence. Department for utilisation with the forces going to the front. At present the list is full, but if in October it is 'found more surgeons are wanted his services will be available. At Opunake on Saturday evening last, Mr. A'Court Opie, county engineer, who is -caving in a few days to take up a similar position in another county, was entertained by the county employees, and presented with a case of fruit knives and forks, as a memento of bis sojourn among them, says the llawera Star.
