PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Pariliaka Read Hoard was held ;:t the hr.fd'iOliice, Eahotll, yesterday. Present :~ Messrs. James Young, T. Harvey, M. Jlickey, S. 31.' Willoughby, A. Cassie, and George Holmes. Tile clerk notified that the following members had been elected at the recent election: —Messrs. James Young, OaDnui ward; A. Cassie, Warca; and >S. M. Willoughoy, Rnhotu. Mr. James Young was unanimously rb-clectc-1 chairman, on the motion of Messrs. T. Harvey and M. Hickey. In returning thanks for this evidence of their continued confidence, -he stated that he did not wish to retain his seat on the board for ever. If any othci member had come forward, he would gladly have given way. However, as he was elected, to the board, lie would endeavor, with the assistance of every member of the board, to use his best ability in the interests of the ratepayers in general, and not of any •particular section.'

FOREMAN'S REPORT. j The foreman (Mr. J. P. Kennedy) re- 1 ported that about seven chains of the Opourapa Road required metalling and about ten chains required repairing. Mr. : Symons had promised to strip a pit and would also give a week with a horse team and find an extra mail free of cost. The cost of the .work would not exceed .€'2s. The top portion of tin; Upper Kaliui Road as far as the Reserve had been repaired to the extent of the grant of ,C2O. 'lhe track had been cleared and two .pipe, culverts put in; a'sa drains cleaned out and small filling and culverts made. A cart could now get to I the reserve with ease. Mr. Stones'*) hill! had .been water-tabled and repairer;.] 'J he road had also been repaired as far' as Mr, Thomas'. A large culvert near Mr. Duggan's had been replaced w.tii 24-inch pipes. Sufficient metal had been left in Mr. Stonex's pit to repair the load as required. The piping, widening; nr.c! metalling of the junctions of the Lower and Up;jor Waiteaka rout's with the Eltham and -Main South roads had been completed bv t.ie County! Council. He also reported that a motor lorry had been carrying large loads of firewood to the Oaonui factory, and had done considerable damage to new metal, bursting throughout the metal coat in several places? All the material except tin l timber for boxing was on the Bayly Road culvert site, and the culvert would: be proceeded with as soon as tin* timli-r arrived. Repairs had been done to the whole of the Warea road, lie asked that £2O bo granted for further repairs. 'Most of the pits were stripped and this would probably carry the road throu»h the winter.
