THE BOMBS IN SOUTHEND. - GREAT FIRES CAUSED. Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received May 11, , r )4O p.m. London, May 11. At Southend an invalided soldier nam' ed Linton picked up a bomb and immersed it in a bucket. J'here were some miraculous escape*, fwo babies were in a room where a fatality occurred, but thev Were uninjured, the bomb pcnetratfiiff the room within inches of the cot. A dog aroused the family, which rushed out of the house. They were nearly iaitrocatej. the father, carrying the children, fought his way out through blinding smoke. The town was awakened by the droning of engines and a deafening explosion. ' People rushed outside. The flarinir bombs, which lit up the Bkies, ciUB«I great fires, houses blazing and falling and windows being shattered for mile* ' • around. Some of the bombs were fizzling bombs with trailing fiames. ATI , Par ' 3 ' Ma >' "• AJaiibc dropped several bomlw at St. Denis, which did much damage. Bfany persons were injured. Aeroplanea drove off the Taube.
