(From Our South Taranaki Correspondent.) A motor car was somewhat damagoc. by fire at Bridgers' motor garage on Monday night. At a meeting of the Eltham Hair) Factory directors, held on Monday, a letter was received from the Government grader congratulating them on the quality of their produce. One of their factories has obtained the highest grade in Taranaki.

The patriotic rally held at the Town Ilall on -Monday evening was largely attended and proved very enthusiastic. Loyal and stirring speeches were made by the Mayor (Mr. li. Dive), Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, iM.l\, and Messrs 11. D. Forsyth, D. L. A. Astbury, J. licslop, and J. Mars, all urging young men w?io were in a position to do so to volunteer to assist their country in the present great crisis. The speeches were interspersed with songs :by Mrs. lieesley, Mrs. Oiling, Mrs. Reid, Messrs E. Carter, Mclsaacs, and the Kev. G. VV. Dent, and a recitation by Mr. l'arrott, of his own composition. At the close of the meeting the following volunteered: IT. D. Forsyth, R. J. Heaven, W. IX Charleton, 11. J. lline, F. A. Porter, J. Stevens, J. S. O'Xeil, N. Keardon, C. O'Callaghan, W. J. Pollard, W. Clarry 'and L. Bcayl. At the commencement of the proceedings at the rally the Mayor made reference to the Lusitania calamity, and at his request the audience stood for a few moments in silence, as a mark of respect for those who had been lost in the sinking of that steamer by 'German torpedoes.
