'it was engineered by Indians who returned from America. The origin of the. conspiracy was found in u movement on the lacilie Coast directed by one Sai Oval. In the hope that the administration would be. weakened by liie war, emissaries have returned to India in eon' biddable numbers and are endeavorin" to stir up trouble, mainly in tin; Punjab and United Provinces. They sought' to collect arms and explosives, eiivuiato ■seditions literature, tamper with tliu tioops and obtain funds 1 robberies, A series of dacoities and murders have taken place. Owing to the Vigilance of the police and the co-operation of the people seizures of bombs M'ere made auti the plans detected. The ringleaders were arrested and several who were implicated made a full confession of the plot, which failed from the very beginning. The plotters failed to win the sympathy of their own people in India. Though the. majority were Sikhs the (iovcrnnn'iit had every assistance from the 'Sikh leaders, who keenly rerouted the discreditable proceedings. Attempts to persuade Mnhommedans to join in the revolt also failed.
