The ringleaders were arrested and several who were implicated made a full confession of the plot, which failed from the very beginning. The plotters failed to win the sympathy of their own people in India. Though the. majority were Sikhs the (iovcrnnn'iit had every assistance from the 'Sikh leaders, who keenly rerouted the discreditable proceedings. Attempts to persuade Mnhommedans to join in the revolt also failed.
