Corporal C. W. Salmon, a New Zealander, who has been wounded at the Dardanelles, is a son of Mr. Salmon, Postmaster at Hawera.

Mr. A. If. Johnstone, of New Plymonth, who has been in Auckland appearing in the Tauniarunui election petition case, returned to New Plymouth yesterday. The name of Private 11. (i. Fcaron appearing in the list of wounded at the Dardanelles is the popular "Jim" Fcaron, brother of Mr. Barney Fcaron, and one of last year's seniors in the Stratford Football Club.

The following New Zealand passengers are on board the P. and O. steamer .Moldavia, which arrived at Melbourne from London yesterday Mr. Armstrong, Nurse tiillow, Mesdames Williams, Biilman, Rowland*), Foster, infant and Nurse.

At a pleasant function which took place at Mr. C. A. Wilkinson's premises lit Elthain on Monday evening, Miss A. .Sim, who Ims liecn a member of the stall' for the, past eight years, anil is now about to be married, was presented by the stall with a complete range of table cutlery and by Mr. Wilkinson with a silvcr-momited oak tray, flattering references being made to her many good qualities.

Mr. M. Cohen, who completed fifty years' work as a journalist on Monday, was met by a large and representative gathering of citizens of Dunedin in the afternoon and was presented with a substantial cheque. The Mayor (Mr. J. .). Clark), Mr. U. Fenwick, Mr. \Y, Davidson, Mr. 10. 0. Reynolds, and Mr. T. Scollav paid tributes to the valuable services rendered by the recipient. Sir. and Mrs. Cohen will leave almost immediately for a trip to America. The popularity of Mr. Huston Young was evidenced by the crowded gathering at the Oaonui llall on l'riday night, on the occasion of the farewell that was tendered to him on the eve of his departure for Trentham to join the troops lor the front. Dancing, interspersed with songs, formed the basis of an enjoyable evening, during a break in which Mr. ]j. K, .laekson, in a patriotic spcecn, presented Mr. Young with a case of pipes on behalf of the gathering, and with a silver-mounted pouch on behalf of the llall Committee, of which the recipient was a member. The M.C's, Messrs R. McEie aiul A. J. Taylor, kept the ball going till the early hours, to music provided by Mr. Council, extras being played by Miss R. Cook and Mr. A. Taylor. The concert programme was provided by Messrs Evans, lllingworth, Mcldenhall, A. Taylor and Colman, The supper, which was dispensed by the ladies, was greatly appreciated.
