A CHARMED LIFE.

ONLY OFFICER TO ESCAPE. AT NEUYE CIfiAPELLE. In a letter written by Major Trafl'ord dated Jlarch 22, he states:—■ "I got rather concussed by shell iire at Xi-uve Chapellc, and have been ordered back for a rest, and am now in a magnificent, qiiiet hospital (an hotel turned into one), on the north coast of France, not far from Boulogne, and am rapidly recovering. 1 was shelled all the way down a road near La ISassee and in Richebourg, and only just escaped with my life. Had they ceased shelling at night I would have been all right, out it was the constant noise day and. night, without a moment's cessation, that me very roomy—and a shell landing on a roof only a few feet away from me nearly got me. Another blew an orderly of mine into a ditch in front of me. and I got every sample of (ierman shell bursting on me, and I believe I am born to be hanged, as I. have had a charmed life so far. Every ollicer of my regiment who went into the fight at Xeuve Chapellc was either killed or wounded excepting myself One ollicer was terribly wounded, a few minutes after I had left the house he was in That luiusc is now a mere lieap of 'bricks and .plaster. I managed to get my mules and men away, and finally found little damage done; to my property and that of when the bombardment was over."
