WHAT CANADA IS DOING.
SUPPLIES FOR THE ORIGINAL FORCE. Writing from Sun Francisco on April 12 tlie correspondent of the Wellington Post says:— If the war lasts another year Canada will, so far as can bo foreseen, have a total of 150,000 men in service—that is to say, an original force of 30,000, plus 50,000 sent overseas lot' reinloi'eements, plus 00,000 in Canada under training. This announcement was made in Parliament by the Premier, Sir Richard liorden, two days ago, in informing tile Legislature that Lord Kitchener had failed on the Dominion for a, second Expeditionary Force. Three months ago Lord Kitchener was informed that the second (juota of troops was readv in Canada to board troopships and sail for Europe, but for reasons which are generally understood this force was "not summoned until now. Premier liorden, in a statement to the House as to tile progress the Canadians authorities have made, in raising, arming, training and despatching troops since the beginning of the war, said that in the Dominion and abroad on the pay-roll of Canada lOl.ylil) men are bearing- arms or performing military service. Olliccrs and men numbering 33,420 have been despatched as the first Expeditionary I'oive ;md as reinforcements to it. The Royal Canadian Regiment, OS2 olliccrs and men, was sent to garrison Bermuda A detachment of 100 olliccrs and men was sent to garrison St. Lucia. In Canada, the second Expeditionary Force numbered 22.272 olliccrs and men. Reserve infantry battalions and the Canadian Mounted Rifles numbered 27,070.
