LONDON MARKETS. London, May 2. ij Wheat— Quiet. The wheat and flour i afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,G95,000 quarters, for tho Continent, 4,755,009 quarters. Atlantic shipments 780,000 quarters, including Pacific 43,000 quarters. The total to Europe is 1,475, , 000 quarters, including India 14,000 . quarters and Argentine 520,000 quarters. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, May 3. The High Commissioner cables under date May 1 (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average in.i>ket prices on spot):— Mutton.—The market is firm iv'th, an upward tendency and a good demand continues. Canterbury North Island G l.lGd; higher priees have been obtained in each case for best quality. Light-weight ewes, 5 9-lGd. Lamb.—The market is weaker and has a tendency to go downward owing to the high price, together with the increasing supplies. Canterbury twos 7 id, other weights and second-grade light Beef. —The market is very linn and supplies of American chilled small. New Zealand hinds lijjd, f° re s C|d; chilled hinds Bd, fores GJd. Butter. —Tho market is firmer with a good demand on account of a quantity of colonial to be shipped to Australia and New Zealand, and butter being packed in tins for the Government; also on account of the absence of Siberian. The supply is running short here and merchants are experiencing an inconvenient delay in delivery on arrival of butter at the London docks. Danish, firm, 144s to 14Us; New Zealand, firm, 134s to l.'his, imsalted 138s to 1425; Australian 130s to 1325, exceptionally 1345; Siberian 12Ss to 130s, exceptionally 1325; Irish creamery 13(!s; Argentine 12Ss to 130s. Cheese.—The market is firm. Canadian, white "Mis to 98s, colored 04s to 90s: New Zealand lirm, white and colored 03s to 04s; Australian 88s to (H)s. United States in good demand, colored 83s to !lOs, white l;7s to !)2s. Hemp.—-The market is lirnicr, but tho demand is chiefly for immediate delivery. Manila freights have been raised 30s per ton of 22401b. Fair current [ Manila £39; New Zealand, good failgrade £32 10s, fair £3O 10s; forward shipment, good fair £3l 10s, fair £3O. Manila forward shipment cannot be quoted owing to the great uncertainty concerning the new grading regulations. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Hops.—Tho market continues dull and no change is expected until delinite Government regulations concerning the liquor traffic can be settled. English 75s to 100s. Californian 70s to 955. Wheat.—There lias been considerable fluctuation during the week, but the market is now somewhat steadier. Canadian, on passage GGs, May-dune 04s; American, new crop, July and August 555; Argentine, on passage, 02s. Oats.—The market is very quiet. Argentine 31s. * ■
