There were 7207 bales offered, a strong attendance of buyers being present. Not a single bid hid been recorded during the week, for t:r >kcr< ascertained that the freightage available was limited to 40,000 bales, but sellers to-day intimated that reg'ilar terms would prevail. For every lot called the buyers remained dumb." The wool buyers' action indicates that general provisions governing auctions are. required with a proviso that if the Government commandeers oversell tonnage this depriving buyers of prearranged space and payment should be granted and free store and interest eiiargcs.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. The Council fixed tiic prices of Hour, Cumberland and Northumberland at £ll 17s Cd per ton, elsewhere £2 17s 6d above the local prices obtaining on August 10th. Brim, Cumberland, Northumberland, wholesale £7 10s per ton, elsewhere 30s above prices ruling on September 10th. Retail lots not exceeding a ton, threepence a bushel, exceeding a ton, twopnee a bushel over the wholesale prices. I'oliard, Cumberland, Northumberland, wholesale £8 a ton, elsewhere 40s per ton abovj the prices that ruled on September lOlli, the retail prices being the same as for bran, over wholesale prices. The commission fixed the price of chick wheat at wholesale 5s 7d; ea=h 5s l)d; booked, retail, 3d extra over the cost of handling; maximum 6s Gd.
