HIGH COMMISSIONER'S RETORT. Wellington, 3Ttiy 3. The Prime Minister lias received the following from t'.ic High Commissioner, dated London, May IJ, 1.30 a.m.:—According to Paris reports from several parts of tlie front the enemy used on Sunday, without effect, devices including glass tubes which on breaking emitted ether bombs, charged with inflammable material. Gas giving green smoke wreathed the enemy's lines, but did not reach the Allies. Tin- Allies progressed north of Yprcs, capturing two lines of trenches. The Germans used 13 inch guns from their lines in Flanders in the bombardment of Dunkirk. British aviators located and dropped bombs on the guns. A. lici'lin message states that the Hermans reached the Dundberg-Libau railway. The Russians lost heavily and retreated, losing lllOi) prisoners. German activity north of the Niomcn is believed to he a demonstration connected with the movements of the fleet covering V.is landing of troops on Russian soil.
