UNION FORCES' SUCCESS. A BRILLIANT FEAT. Received May 3, 12.10 a.m. Capetown, May 2. Official. —Colonel Mackenzie's living column by a brilliant feat pushed 120 miles from Bethany over most difficult arid -country with scarcely any transport facilities. They surprised the enemy entraining at Gideon station. A snail party destroyed the line at North Gideon and captured the whole train and a quantity of live stock. The !;Ui Brigade heavily engaged the enemy at night, but withdrew after heavy casualties, including 70 prisoners. Two brigades attacked at dawn, dispersed and pursued the enemy, S:')() etroug, twenty miles. They recovered all the prisoner", and captured several puns, maxims, two hundred prisoners-, and, but for the difficult, rock ground, tbe'.y would have surrounded the enemy. Three Union officers and twenty men were killed; eight officers and forty-five men were wounded.
