■SAILORS DEMAND IffGREASED TAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 1. The steamer Wcstralia was to have left for the South at 2 p.m.., but was delayed on account of the demands by. the sailors and firemen for increased pay for the next trip. The company intends to withdraw the vessel from the Sew Zealand coastal trade after arrival in Duncdin, and transfer her crew to the Australian coastal trade. When she arrived here on Thursday the crew were paid oil'. On being asked to sign en again to-day they refused unless the company agreed to pay .-CIS lor the trip to Duncdin and Melbourne and throw in a free return passage to New Zealand. The crew is a Kow Zealand one, and for the trip members arc entitled to intercolonial rates —.GlO a month for firemen and £8 a month for sailors. These rates were offered, but refused. So far, the' company has not ottered to 'concede anything in the direction of the men's demands.
