ItAWKE'S BAY MEETING. CHORTLE WINS THE CUP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, April 30. The weather was line, witli a fair attendance, for the opening of the ilawke's Bay Jockey Club's Cup meeting. The track was in excellent order. The totalizator receipts were £IO,BBB, -against £23,050 for the first day of last year. Results:— LONGLANDS HACK HANDICAP HURDLES, of 100 sovs; one mile and threequarters.—l C. Melton's Fagot (Marchant) 9.0 1, 1 Golden Water 9.11 2, 8 Rufliana 0.0 3. Also ran: 1 Birkful, 3 Bracburn, 2 Vascular, 5 Okau, 0 St. Fire. Birkful led from an even start, but fell at the first hurdles. Fagot led right round and won by ten lengths, five lengths between second and third. Time, 3min 21sec. St. Fire, Bracburn, Vascular and Okahu fell. MAIDEN HACK RACE, of 100 sovs, six furlongs. —1 G. D. Greenwood's Multigrade (D. Ryan) 1, 5 Mossman 8.8 2, (St. Omer 8.5 3. Also started: 16 Lady Ua, 17 Multigaro, 5 Heather Mixture; 0 Astrologer, 8 3 Papauria, 13 Miss Percy, 10 Royal Favorite, lo 'lAtuatoro, 14 Toki, 6 Finistere, 4 Hygia, 10 Maricia. Papauria led from a'fair start. In a good finish Multigrade won-by a neck, half a length separating second and third. Time, Invin lOscc.

Eligible, 5 Dribble, 0 Loreto, 10 Spain, 7 Goldshot, 8 Sicily, fl.Hyettussa, 11 Tor•nca, 12 Roderick. Three led a good start from Bonny Dream and Sicily. Won by a neck, third horse a length away. Also started: 5 Belaseo, '6 Adroit, 4 Centre, 3 Downliam, 8 Botanist. Tete-a-tete led with Croesus handy. Croesus led up the straight, where Dinner Gong replaced Tete-a-tete. Won by half a length, a length separating second and third. Time, Imin 20 4-ssec.

Williams' Multiply 8.4 ..., 3 Also started: 3 Sauci 8.7, 6 Bon Hove 8.2, 4 Indigo 8.4, Mummer 7.13, 7 ManiaroaO.ll. Indigo led from a fair start, with Bon Reve next and the rest of the field close. Passing the stand, Bon Reve led Indigo, with Balboa third, the same order being maintained at the back. Indigo led into the straight. Passing the stand, Chortle came through, and won by two lengths, two lengths separating i Balboa and Multiply, the rest being strung out. Time, 2min 32 2-ssec.
KARiAMU HANDICAP HURDLES, of 200 sovs, one mile and three-quarters. — 1 E. Kemp's Vi (McMullan) 10.5 1, 5 Master Timi 0.0 2. 3 Sensitive 0.0 3. Also started: 2 Flingot, '6 San Pam, 4 Bollin, 1 Ap'pin. Bollin led from Vi and Sensitive, Flingot being left. Vi ran off at the first hurdle home. Won by a neck, Sensitive being a length away. On a protest against Vi, Master Timi was awarded first place. Time, 3 min ISsec.
