FINANCIAL POSITION SATISFACTORY. Wellington, April 27. Discussing the position of the Dominion in the present Empire crisis, Mr. Mnsscy stated that though all the details for the financial year were not yet available "u: was in a position to say that considering all the circumstances, the position of the country was particularly satisfactory, especially that of the Consolidated Fund. The fact was that, .-ven with the extra war expenditure, jvhich we scarcely felt yet, the country was wonderfully prosperous. Money for legitimate purposes was easily obtainable, and the 'Government hoped before 'ong further to relax the restrictions on the lending departments.
DEATH OF TKOOPERS. Wellington, April 27. ' 'Die Defence Department has been advised of the following casualties: — Lance-Corporal Percy Bigwood, Auckland Infantry Battalion, main body, died, of pneumonia on April 23, nged 33; his next-of-kin is Mrs. Bigwood, nee Carrie Moore, Melbourne. Private M. Angus, Hawke's Bay Squadron, Wellington 'Mounted Rifles, main body, died of measles and bronchitis on April 23; his 'father is ,T. Angus, Havelock North.
RUSSIAN WHEAT. LOADING AT VLADIVOSTOK. Wellington, April 27. Mr. Masscy informed a Post reporter that he had received the following cablegram from Mr. Clifton, representing the New Zealand Government at the Panama Exposition, San Francisco: —"It is observed here that some 3.50,000 tons of wheat are said to he in course of arrival I at Vladivostoek for shipment to Europe, "ft is said that a large number of British ships have arrived at that port via the Panama Canal, and that there will be some delay experienced in the loading, as there arc hut few facilities there for dealing with such cargoes, and that temporary -wharves and moorings ara being constracted."
HEALTH OF SAMOAN FORCE. (Wellington, Last Night. Colonel Logan reports from Samoa that the health of the troops was good. Captain J. R. Roaehe has enteric; Lieut. C. Maekic, a contusion; wireless Sergt. R. Croucher, debility; Corporal W. J. Hcasle.U dengue fever; Bugler 11. J. Roberts, influenza; Privates F. C. Buncehall, emplysetna, W. A. Finch bronchitis, A. J. ; Taylor dysentery, Trooper N. Reeves dysentery." All are doing well. DEATH OF A TROOPER. Duncdin, Last Night. Advice has been received by Mr. H. P Harvey, of the commercial staff of the Otago Daily Times, that his Son Gunner William H. Harvey, of the mam bodv of the New Zealand expeditionary force, died at sea on April 1«.
