ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
KILLED BY FALL OF GRAVEL. Feilding, April 26. A fatal accident occurred at Kimbolton to-day. A. T. Pettigrew, a very old settler and contractor, was working in a gravel pit on Ms own farm when a fill of gr:;vcl buried him. There was 110 one present it the time. His son, who had gone wil'i a load of gravel, on returning found lii-: "ather beneath the fall.' Life was already extinct when the body was secured. MACIIINE-OUN MISHAP. Hamilton, April 20. There was a remarkable accident at the military camp at Morrinsville jn Klinday. A party of visitors were being Shown round and having tlie machinegun demonstrated to them. A Belt of dead cartridges was being used, but inadvertently a live cartridge got into the barrel and went off, striking a man named Thompson on the- lioot and cutting a piece out, but not injuring the wearer. Tlie bullet ricocheted and entered the leg of another visitor named Smith, who was admitted to the Waikato hospital. Apparently the bullet is still in his leg. An inquiry is being held. ' DEATH IN A TRAMCAR. Napier, April 24. Mrs. Harford, an elderly widow, collapsed in a tramcar to-day, and expired in a few moments. SUICIDE AT AN HOTEL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ureymouth, Last Night. A young man named John O'Neill, .inmarried, thirty years of age, was found dead in a bedroom at the Royal Hotel this afternoon. His door was locked, and when forced the deceased was found lying on the floor with his throat cut. a razor being near the body. O'Neill nad been in a depressed state of health lately-
