The Daily News. TUESDAY, APRIL 27, 1915. THE HOSPITAL BOARD.
The election of three members to represent the town of New Plymouth on tl-e Hospital Board will take place tomorrow. There arc five nominations for the three vacancies. The chairman (Mr. Fred. Bellringer) again offers his services, and the citizens will not be so unmindful of the valuable, work he has done in the past as to place him other than at the top of the poll. At any rate we hope they will take that view, for no man lias done more for the hospital of late years, from the administrative point of view, than the chairman. Mrs. Dockrill is also a candidate. Experience has shown the use and advantage of a lady member of the board, especially one combining the discretion and ability possessed by Mrs. Dockrill, who has earned and deserves the continued , confidence of burgesses. The other three candidate are Messrs. A. E. Sykes, G. W. Browne, and A. E. Wntkins. Of these Mr. Sykes, by reason of his professional experience, which includes a period of service on the staff iof the Wellington Hospital, his tireless energy, his 'public-spirit, and progressive ideas, should receive the major support. Mr. Sykes believes the time is ripe for the appointment of a resident surgeon, at the same time retaining the services of the present able lionovary staff, and the establishment of a dental surgery at the hospital whereat the children of working people can be njjularly and properly attended. No doubt these are proposals that will meet with tile approval of the public. [f they do. then Mr. Sykes must be- given their undivided support to-morrow. '.Mr. Browne has a- record of service, to his credit that cannot lightly be passed over, but if any of the old members lv.ive to give way to an able public man like Mr. Svkes has proved himself to be it should not be the chairman or the lady member.
