GOLF.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. Perfect weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon, and at the different local clubs golfers spent a pleasant afternoon. On the New Plymouth Club's links at Waiwakailio two competitions were played—the St. Andrew's Cross for players with handicaps of 18 and under, and a junior aggregate prize (open to players whose present handicaps are 19 and over and are not entitled to compete for the St. Andrew's Cross, and at the end of the season a prize will be given to the player securing the lowest net aggregate of his four best scores made on days on .which St. Andrew's Cross matches are played). Twenty-five players took part in thesa competitions. The best scores returned for the St. Andrew's Cross were:— R. T. McQuade 94 18 76 K. Bain 97 IS 79 W. P. Nicoll 93 12 81 J. Paton 95 I'2 83 D. Chappell .. 117 20 91 A. R. Ryder 119 27 92 For the ladies' match to-morrow the following draw has been made: —Miss Blundell v. Miss Thomson; Mrs. Glenn v. Miss Foote; Mrs. Paton v. Miss Bewley; Mrs. Hutton v. Mrs. Johns; Mrs. Gray v. Miss L. Reed; .Mrs. Penn v. Mrs. Whetter; Miss Brewster v. Miss W. Bradbury. Writing to the New Plymouth Club, the secretary of the Waverley Golf Club says:—"On behalf of our club I wish to extend to you an invitation to visit us this season. At the present time our course is in capital order, and everything promises ideal golfing conditions, so we would be only too pleased to receive a visit from your club.. The train arrangements suit admirably—arrive at 10.45, depart 4.30. Lunch and afternoon tea would be provided at the club house. I cannot promise that your visit would be returned, but I know that several of our players are anxious to make a tour ■fts far as New Plymouth, playing several clubs en route. Tlie standard of play in pur club has greatly improved of late, and now we are able to cross swords with the stronger town clubs. I understand •that New Plymouth possesses three new clubs, so would be grateful if you would pass this invitation on to your sister clubs. In the past we have found that visits from outside clubs have done our players incalculable good, so for the future we intend to get as many of these as we possibly can. WITIORA CLUB. At Witiora on Saturday afternoon an eclectic match was played, the best cards returned, being:— H. Johnson 41 8J 32J A. K. Smart 39 fl" 33 C. McAllum 43 10 33 P. Loftus 42 7A 34J F. J.
