I pulled the signals in error for the main line instead of the loop." He added that Cotter was a splendid officer, practically a tee- ■ totaller, and worked twelve hours nightly. His health lately had been unsatisfactory. The driver of the Melbourne express gave evidence that the lines were set clear. When he saw the other train, jhe shut off steam and applied the I brakes, but too late to avoid a collision.
