He inherited, but never claimed the title in public. He died in 1910. His son> did not claim the earldom, declaring, 'What is a title to a democratic citizen of Australia?" The family seat dates back to the 13th century. The steamer Makoro brought a large quantity of relics of the Emdcn, including two guns.
