Mr. E. 'Mbrrissey is contesting the Hawera Mayoralty. Mr. M. Branch, an inspector under tiio Turanaki County Council, has resigned liiH position. Mr. Neville H. ArA'cn, of New Plv- \ mouth, will leave for Wellington th'i* morning to join the Now Zealand reinforcements in camp at Trentham. Dr. Gilbert Dive, F.R.C.P., formerly of Hawera, now in the-Army Medical Service, is now serving with the army in France.

Mr. Vickers, of the Waikato district, a resident of Taranaki in the fifties and a former pupil' of the old BoardsworW school, is staying in New Plymouth.
On Saturday, Lieutenant G. W. Hew derson, late of New Plymouth, was pw sented by his fellow-employees at th< 'Bristol Piano Company, Limited, with a wristlet watch and other gifts. Mr. R. G. Sellar, of the legal firm at Halliwcll, Sellar and Thomson, is voluJM tarily retiring from the partnership. Mr., Sellar, who is leaving Hawera about the end of May, purposes taking an extended holiday for health reasons.
Captain F. G. Kimbell (manager ol the Hawera branch of the Bank of Au* tralasia) will probably be joining tht [Expeditionary Force at an early date* His services have been accepted, and t* 19 quite likely he may be called on hefore long. Mr. 11. iP. Opie, late engineer to th* Egmont County Council, left Opunake on Sunday, to join the troops leavingHawera for Trentham. Mr. Opie ha* previously served under active serviceconditions, and it is trusted' he will be able to place his experience to the credit nf his country.
