FARMERS' UNION.
TARANAKI EXECUTIVE. • At the monthly meeting of the Provincial Executive there were present: Messrs R. T. Dunn (chair), .T. Davidson, H. H. Buxton, J. Thomson, G.Capper, and A. E. Washer. Inward correspondence was read from the Premier acknowledging receipt of the Union's fesolution re suggested war tax and stating that it would have . due consideration.
From Mr Marc F. Voullaire, Rin.rlea branch of the Union, enclosing cheque for members' subscriptions. He expressed the opinion that the Riverlea branch was shaky and questioned whether it would survive another meeting.—Resolved that the secretary write to the Riverlea branch urging individual effort on the part of each member. —It was further suggested that all individual members from the branches 1 be invited to attend the annual confer-! ence to be held at Inglewood. They could not vote, but by permission of delegates, could speak. It was questioned if anyone, save the duly appointed delegates, were eligible for election to positions on the Provincial Executive but the secretary said that the fules provided that certain officers should be elected from the Union members not necessarily from the delegates only. —lt was decided to refer this point to headquarters for a ruling.—The Chairman thought that it might be a suggestion to the .various branches to eject members as delegates apart from those now on the executive. This would bmg in' new blood and the present members were eligible to attend "by virtue of their office as members of the provincial executive, and it was eventually agreed to invite all members of tJ-e various branches of the union to attend the annual conference to be held in Inglewood on May 20th. From Mr 0. E. McGuiness, enclosing (heque for C 4 15s. members' subscription to the Mangatold branch of the Union.
From the Kaimata branch of the Union, enclosing a cheque for £4 0s for members' subscriptions. From the Egmont A. and P. Association stating that the committee had voted half the cost of the nine medals for Mr Brown's classes, the moiety being covered by a donation from the Farmers' Union. The eost of'silver medals would be about 5s each, plus Is fid per dozen letters for engraving. From the Kaplonga branch of the Union, stating that the branch was formed on July Bth last with a membership of lfi, The executive was composed of seven members—Messrs Allinisen (chairman), A. T. Tait (vkechairman) (}. Death (treasurer), *B. Fearon (auditor), to act, pro forma, with Messrs D. Black, Ci. Gwynne, -A. W. Dagg, and G. Smith. They had done very little so far, but they lmfl been the means of introducing Mr "R. A Browne to their district, whk'h would eventually be a great benefit to them.
The Ngaere branch wrote notifying that they heartily supported the proposed amendment to the National .Endowment Act. The delegate appointed to attend the annual conference was Mr B. Orr. If he were unable to attend Mr. A. IX Walker -was appointed to fill hjs place.—" Star."
