TARANAKI PRESBYTERY.
The Rev. Shore, Moderator, presided over a well-attended meeting of the Tal'anaki Presbytery at TTawera recently. ! Mr. N. K. MacDiarmid, of New Plymouth, apologised for his unavoidable absence. Messrs Bridge and Welsh were appointed a sub-committee to examine church records, and later on reported that they were well kept. The commission to visit Waverley had been unable to go, and it was agreed to continue it and to report to the June meeting. Mr. Howes, on behalf of Mr. Shore, read the report of the commission to visit Opunake. Steady and faithful ! work was being done. The families were comparatively few, but the mem- ' bership was being maintained. The I revenue showed a liberal response on the part of the members to ordinary and ' special work. A larger income, however, was necessary. i The report was adopted, together with > a-lengthy finding containing a number of 'recommendations, and it was arranged that Mr. Shore should exchange pulpit duties with Mr. Welsh and read it to .the Opunake congregation. ' Mr. Howes asked leave of absence, and Mr. Bridge was appointed clerk pro tern. l Mi\ I'attison was asked to report on . home missionaries' sermons to the June meeting. ' Mr. Bridge reported that he had audit- . .Ed the treasurer's books and certified them as correctly kept. Normanby-Mokoia.—A proposal to detach Mokoia from Nonnanby and join ' it to ITawera was considered. Mr. Shore's session intimated willingness, provided mode of conveyance were arranged for. After some discussion, it was agreed to defer the, matter to next meeting, and to ask Mr. Shore to supply fortnightly afternoon services till then. Messrs Shore and Bono wore appointor to meet the Nonnanby congregation i as to its status and report in June. Interesting home mission reports were given by the various home missionaries, and satisfaction expressed. Elders had . been ordained at Okato and Inglewood. Mr. Buckley is shortly to be trans- ,: ferrcd from Okato to Kanieri, and Mr. fJ. W. Russell, M.A., has undertaken j temporary supply. .' An application for ordination under j the home mission regulations was re- ; ceived from Mr. Kirgan, of Kaponga, , and was held over to the June meeting. j Mr. Roseveare gave an interesting re- ! port of chaplains' work at the recent f camp near New Plymouth, and mention--1 ed that sympathetic and tangible expressions of appreciation had been received from the officers, some of whom had forwarded contributions to-.yards the expenses of the recreation tent, A Tnotion of thanks to the officers was passed, also a resolution that steps be taken to procure a tent and equipment .for the use of Presbyterian chaplains in the military camps.
