BOWLING.
- The following will represent West End in the final for the banner at Inglewood on Thursday, 15th inst: — Haslam, j. Johnson, F. J. Hill, J. D. Sole; W. Putt, J. Wood, J. Lobb, C. N. Johnson; A. Bartlett, W. Oliver, F. Ncwcll, B. IT. Real. Bowlers are laughing over an incident on Saturday in the doubles, which enforces the "never despair" principle (states the Dunedin Star). A certain two were 0 down with one head to play. By consent all bauds rolled up their bowls without expectation of a reversal. One side had no hope, the other no fear. Neither party paid much attention to the growth of what came out, somewhat luckily, a good head. When finished, the skips shook hands, the presumed loser remarking: "You were a bit too good for us." Then the leaders, who had not watched the play at this head, stayed a moment to comment on the closeness of the bowls, and, starting to pick them out, they discovered that the side that had practically given up were lying 7, and had won by one point.
