The stokehold manning of certain ships of the Union Company came under review. The executive having gone into the cases, it was resolved that the company lie asked to meet representatives of the union in conference to discuss tho stokehold manning of the steamships Kaituna, Komiitn, Kaiapoi, Kaitnngnta, Waipou, and Kaknnoa, with the object of getting sixfiremen instead of three firemen and two trimmers. In this connection, it was stated that tho general opinion of members of the union was that the vessels named were too heavy for'one fireman in a watch, who, in some cases, had to attend to six furnaces; hence the desire to get two firemen in a watch, which meant putting an extrn man in each ship.
