DISTRICT NEWS.

WAREA. (From a Correspondent). A meeting of the Cape Egmont Hc-r----'tipltural Society was held on Wednesday. The president (Mr J. Burgess) explained that the meeting had been called in consequence of some difference of opinion among members as to whether the total balance to the credit of the Society or only the new proceeds from the late show, were to be given to the Belgian Relief Fund. Ho pointed out that at the meeting at which the donation had been decided upon, it had been expressly stated that only the new proceeds from the late show were intended, and that, although he, personally, would like to see all they had in hand given, he did not think they could depart from the resolution carried at first meeting. This view was unanimously accepted. The accounts showed the total receipts in connection with the show to have been £69 15s 3d, and the expenditure £SO 4s fid, leaving a balance of £l9 10s 9d available for the relief fund. The president expressed some disappointment at the result and said he would himself make it up to £2O. What ■partly accounted for the balance not being larger was that no social was held this year in connection with the Society, in consequence of the war breaking out at the time the social is generally held, and the feeling at first prevalent that anything in the shape of amusements were out of place. In previous years the social netted about £5.

Some few (notably Mr and Mrs Fox, of Okato) returned the whole or part .of their prize money and deserve the thanks of the Society. In the opinion of the meeting the exhibits at the last show were the best ever entered, but the effect was spoiled by the want of space to display them, Steps will be taken to obviate this defect in the future, and it is confidently expected that future shows may be made far more attractive,
