ITALY, ROUMANIA, AND A WAR OF DELIBERATION.
SIGNIFICANT SPEECHES OF LEADING MEN. r "EVE OF SERIOUS EVENTS." "The participation of laly and Rouniania in the war is being actively advocated in quarters which curry weight," says the Pall Mall Gazette of' February 10. "We are on the eve of serious events," says M. Dlmamly, the well-known Roumanian statesman, and the view is shared by leading Italian politicians. Router's correspondent in Paris quotes the 'Petit Parisien's Rome correspondent as saying;—• Speaking on behalf of the Italian Radical party, which comprises over seventy, members, the leader, Signor Luigi Fcra, said that their entire sym-, pathy was with the cause which France was defending. Signor Fedorgoni, a Rome Deputy and leader of the Nationalist party, also expressed his belief in the necessity of war with Austria. He declared that the real reason for calling for intervention j was that a Great Power like Italy could not remain aloof from events which would fix the destinies of Europe for a long time. "That is why," he continued, "we believe, in the necessity of ensuring for ourselves hegemony in the Adriatic, while recognising the right of the Servians to have all the ports necessary for their economic, development. "The moment and manner of our intervention must be decided with the Powers of the Triple Entente. The negotiations to this end will determine the nature of the claims which Italy will put forward at the European Congress. "In the given circumstances I express every wish that Italian intervention will take place. . . I am convinced that it will take place."—Renter.
