PERSONAL ITEMS Miss Roane, who has been the guest of Mrs. Grant, returned to Woodville this morning by the express. Miss S. Fitzlierberb is the guest of her sister, Mrs. C. Chilwell, Takapuna. Misg K. ITamerton, who is at present in 'Wellington, returns on Monday. Miss J. Maekay has returned from her short but pleasant trip to Wellington. Miss Ina Lewis is on a short visit to Wellington. Mrs. Fitzherbert, senr., is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. E. I'. Finton, Masterton. Mrs. W. Malone, Stratford, left by the s.s. Rotorua last Thursday, en route to England. Mrs. Percy Webster, who has been the guest of Mrs. Clem Webster, Feilding, has returned. Miss Devenish is on a short visit to Wellington, to bid p farewell to her nephew, Mr. Harry Skinner, who is leaving for the front. Misses Gilkison and J. Toralinson (Nelson) are at present in New 'Plymouth, having just returned from visiting Mt. Egmont. Mrs. Howley is on a visit to Wanganui and Levin. Mibs Matthews, who lias been on a short visit to Mokau, has returned. Miss 1). Thompson, who has been on a visit to the mountain, left last week for Mokau, where she is tho guest of Mrs. Robison. Mrs. Ivan Standish, who has been staying in New Plymouth, las returned to Auckland. Mrs. J. Glenn, who spent Easter in Auckland, has returned. Miss Standish, who has been on a short visit to her home in New Plymouth, left Wellington by the s.s. Hotdrua on Thursday, cn route for England and Belgium. Mrs. Lewis, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. C. T. Murray, has returned to Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford and family (Inglewood), who have been on a short visit to New Nlymouth, have returned. Dr. and Mrs. Rorke have returned to Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. Preston, who have been staying at the White Hart, have returned to Auckland. ' Mrs. Sorley (Auckland) is on a visit to New Plymouth. Garden Party—Last Thursday, in the beautiful grounds of Mr. Percy-Smith, a most delightful garden party was held in aid of the Victoria Maori Girl's College, Parnell, Auckland, and being endowed with perfect weather, imlurally it proved an unqualified success. The first portion of the programme was a pierrot mask, entitled "The Only Legend," in which Mrs. Birch Johnston took the leading role, aided by Misses A'. Bullard, K. Mills, D." Bradbury, M. Corkill, W. Webster, and a musical chorus. , Miss Hirst presided at the piano, and Mr Hutton played the violin, A number of the old country dances were given by some dainty little children trained by Miss Bedford. Afternoon tea.—Last Tuesday, as a farewell to Miss Standisli, lira E. Griffiths gave a delightful afternoon tea at her pretty home at Fitzroy. During the whole of the afternoon delightful music wa's rendered by Miss Hirst, while a dainty tea was served in the dining room, the floral decorations, being bowls of autumn leaves nad nasturtiums. As Miss Standisli was leaving for Wellington on the following day, en route for England and Belgium, to offer her services as nurse, Archdeacon Evans, in a very happy little speech, on behalf of Miss Standish's many friends, took the opportunity to present her with an electric torch, to which Miss Standisli feelingly responded. Other speeches were made by Rev. H. A. Favell and Mr O'C,-il-ia f»han. The hostess wore a maize-color-ed charmetise, veiled in cream lace; Miss Standisli, navy coat, skirt, and black velvet hat; Mrs Standisli (sen.) dove grey costume, faced with black, black feathered toque; Miss Tansley, mossgreen costume, with purple colored ceinture. Amongst the others present were: Mesdamos R. George, R. Davies, Sladden, R. Standisli, Bloxam, Russell, F. Robertson, F. G. Evans, H. Stocker, Bewley, Balharry, Addenbrooke. S. Shaw, Misses Roy, Stephenson, K. Leatham, Fookes (2) Matthews. Another charming afternoon tea was given on Wednesday last by Mrs Bal'liarry, in honor of her cousin, Miss Fielding (Sydney) who is paying her a visit. It took the form of a Limerick afternoon, prizes for which were won by Misses C. Douglas and G. Shaw. Amongst those present were: Mrs Balharry, white embroidered voile lightly touched with ■pale blue; Mrs McDiarmid, black silk, hat en suite; Mrs W. Niehol, flowered voile, trimmed with lace, hat massed with pink roses; Mrs G. Millar, French grey coat and skirt, black hat, with white plumes; M_j-s Trilby King, saxc blue costume, black velvet hat, with ceriso rose; Miss Fielding (Sydney) cream crepe de chine frock, with Dolly Varden hat to correspond; Mrs Les Nolan, salmon ping crepe de chine, panelled with rich cream lacc, pink silk hat. wreathed with roses and green leaves; Mrs Fred Robertson, Mvy blue costume, black hat with shaded roses; Mrs. R. George, cream serge coat and skirt, black hat with while plumes; Mrs Bloxam, brown costume, cerise colored hat; Miss C. Douglas, cream costume, hat en suite; Miss A. Wilson, cream coat and skirt and black feathered hat; Mrs. F. Honan, navy blue coat and skirt, hat relieved with pale pink roses; Miss B. Matthews, cream costume, black hat: Miss Iv.
