GENERAL MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. There ivas a iargo\ttendance at a general committee meeting of the West ' End Foreshore Improvement Society last night at the Bungalqw. The Dresident, Mr, A. E. iSykes, was in the chair, t The principal business waa the recep* tion of the balance-sheet of the Monday picnic at the park. The preah dent remarked t'lat boiuc of the mem- * berß had thought him rather ambitious when he aimed at clearing £IOO from the function but he was pTeasSd to announce that the actual net profits amounted to fill odd. (Applause.) The whole of accounts had been scheduled and paid, and the balancesheet, audited by Mr, ,JS. Holden, of the ' borough clerical staff. The credit balance was Jtlll 3s. .MM In moving the adoption of the bal- 1 ancc-sheet, the, president said that tha result had not been achieved Without a great deal of labor. Ho thanked the ladies in particular for their remarkably fine assistance. He did not intend to individualise, for that would be unfair in a case like t'jis, where all had worked so magnificently. He was proui to be associated with 'Such a band ot workers as was iu charge of the work ' here, for he. was a worker himseljf. Out* side of the society, however, there vert many citizens who had given invalnabl# assistance. He would particularly like) to mention Mrs. Bowling, the headmistress of the West End school; Skitrop, the borough engineer, (who dei corated the traction engine and trailer); Mr. Cole, who, owing to a 7 projected "demonstration'.' against the gentleman, -who was originally "cast" for ftie par\ figured in the procession as the Kaisers Messrs Ellis and Lightband, marshals There were so many, however, that to mention them all would take quite A . long time; and he hoped those not specifically mentioned would accept tha hearty thanks of the society;. , Mr. Staples, iu seconding, warmly \ eulogised the services of the president, who had certainly bom the guiding [ spirit, and who had, by his unbounded enthusiasm, carried the committee along with hipa. The motion was enthusiastically carried. It was decided to resume the weekly euchre parties next 'Tuesday. The president said li'e intended to mov« at next meeting of the Tourist and Expansion League tlikt a monster carnival be held at Kawaroa Park next Christ-' mastide, when he hoped that the £lll would easily be eclipsed.
