JAPANESE TRADE COMMISSION.

ENTERTAINED AT LUNCHEON.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, April 8.

Tlie Japanese Trade Commissioners j arc being entertained at luncheon to-day j by the Chamber of Commerce. In the course of an interview Br Muira stated j that the desire of the Japanese was that existing trade relations should be strengthened and extended so far as New Zealnd was concerned. It was felt that there was room for a gret improvement in the present means of getting Hew Zealand produce into the Japanese markets. It was regarded that the transhipment charges incurred on exports from this country to Japan via Sydney must be a handicap. At the same time the trade at present was not sufficiently large for the establishment of a regular service, but the possibilities of expansion were fully recognised, and it had been proposed that a line should be run from Japan to New Zealand via the Solomon Islands.
