Official industrial returns show that 24,770 workers have left their various trades and callings to take up military employment, including the people cn■wed' in clerical and professional work who enlisted. The State's unemployed arc estimated at 5000.

Butter merchants have obtained sanction to add 2s per nvt. to the recent prices fixed for butter, to cover froxes and cartage. Retailers are greatly dissafcfied with the small margin of profit.
