Le Temps' Petrograd correspond lit says the Emperor i'ran/. Josef was resolute ill declining concessions to Italy, saying he would rather abdicate than cede territory to his former ally.

Advices from Vienna are that the ''>.nperor Franz Josef's appeal to the Pope for peace is officially denied.

GREATEST ECONOMY NECESSARY.
Received April 0, 12.25 a.m. Vienna, April 5. Count Tisza declares that Hungary has insufficient food to last until the liarvest, and the greatest economy will be necessary to avert famine.
LOSS ON THE DANUBE. Received April 5, 0 p.m. Nish, April 4. Ail Austrian armor-plated tug named the Belgrade was mined and blown up below Semlin. Two survivors informed the Servian authorities that the tug was laden with ammunition, and carried besides a captain and two pilots for the passage of the Iron Gates, a naval officer and twenty-five sailors, and seven engineers. The men were told before quitting Semlin that they were starting on an important mission, and each would receive a bonus on its completion. I
