THE GERMAN SUBMARINES
A DUTCH STEAMER MINED.
Received April 4, 3.30 p.m. London, April 3,
The Jason and Gloxina were fishing forty miles from the Tyne. The crews were taken aboard the UK). The trawlers were sunk, and the boats of the submarine transferred the crews of the trawler Rhodesia. She hoisted the British flag and sank the Nellie by gunfire. The crew of a boat was picked up exhausted three hours later. The TJIO stopped the Nor, timber laden, to Hull, on Wednesday, and ignited the carijo. The commander handed the captain a certificate, that the. steamer was sunk under the declaration of London. The Nor was sighted on Friday, still burning A Dutch collier, the Schieland, w.is mined near the Humber. One of the crew was blown to pieces and four injured. Seven are missing.
BRITISH STEAMER TORPEDOED.
Amsterdam, April 2.
A steamer landed at the Hook of Holland eleven of the crew of the Norwegian barque Nor, -"which had been torpedoed.
London, April 2.
The German submarine U2B sunk the British steamer South Point, sixty miles thirty-six were landed at Lisbon 'by another British steamer. To-day the submarine UlO sunk the trawlers Jason and Gloninia off Shields. The crews were taken off and transferred to another fishing boat. Later the submarine sunk the trawler Nellie, the crew escaping in a boat. -
ANOTHER STEAMER SUNK. Received April 5, 12.20 a.m. London, April 3. The Middlesborough steamer Lockwood was torpedoed and sunk off Start Point. The captain sent his vessel at full speed and cleverly manoeuvred, making it impossible for the submarine to get a straight shot, but later a big sea hit the Lockwood, which prevented her answering her helm. The submarine fired two ineffective torpedoes, and then, rapidly closing in, fired a third at a range of fifty yards. The steamer was struck amidships and badly damaged by the explosion. A fishing" smack picked up the crew of twenty-two men.
FISHING BOAT SUNK. Received April 5, 1.10 a.m. Paris, April 4. The French fishing boat Paquerette was torpedoed oil' Fecamp. The crew was saved.
A TURKISH REPORT. BRITISH CRUISER REPULSED. Received April 5 > 12.20 a.m. Amsterdam, April 3. Turkish advices state that a British cruiser bombarded Mowilah, and attempted to land troops, but was repulsed.
ALLEGED ILLEGAL ATTACK.
BRITAIN OFFERS REPARATION.
Received April 4, 5.5 T).m. Washington, April 3.
Details of the attack on the Dresden received by the State. Department indicate that the Dresden was about to ho interned for overstaying her allotten time at Juan Fernandez when the British cruisers arrived and opened fire. The German commander thereupon blew up the Dresden. The Chilian Government detained the German sailors on fie ground of a breach of neutrality, and made representations to Britain against attacking the Dresden in territorial waters. It is understood that Britain lias offered reparation.
GERMAN PARCELS SEIZED.
Paris, April 2,
The Allies' cruisers at Toulon seized on board various ships 2500 postal pack, ets of German origin.
A CANARD 'EXPLODED.
Paris, April 4. The Delmira has arrived at Cherbourg.
(It was cabled on 2Mb March that the Delmira was torpedoed by a Gorman submarine, and sunk, but that the crew was saved.)
