ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
TWO MEN DROWNED.

Two young moil, John Hair and John' Nicholls, residents at Otahuhu, worndrowned.in the Tiiiniiki River by (h* capsizing of a flat-bottomed dinghy. In company with John Janson, they wcrsfishing when the craft capsized. Jausoa> was the only ono of the three able to> swim. All held on to the capsized boat till Hair and Nicholls were exhausted and sank. Janson's erica brought a launch to hit* rescue. lie was landed, much exhausted, after being an hour !a the water. Efforts to recover the bodice of the other two failed. Deceased ware both single men, about 31) years of age, and were employed in the Southdown Freezing Works.
JANSON COMMENDED. Auckland, Yesterday. The body of William Nicholls, ono of •Hie victims of the Tamaki River drowning accident, was rc-ovcrod yesterday afternoon near the scene of the' accident.
The body of Hare is still missing. At the inquest the coroner greatly commended Janson, who was in a dinghy with the two deceased, for his conspicuous bravery in attempting to rescue them. A verdict of accidentally drown* cd was returned.

FATAL LEAT MOM A TRAIN. '
Auckland, April .'I. At fireenlane railway station thin morning a man named Bamuby was instantaneously killed while attempting to leave the train which slows down, but does not stop, while passing the raiwcourse. He was seen to jump from a carriage and disappear beneath, practically the whole train passing over Ms body.
Auckland. Yesterday. An inquest has opened into a fatality at the tircon Lane station, where a man was killed through jumping off a traitt to go to the races. Deceased was identified as Lrnest Frederick Towers, a sawmi.'' " d ' of Mercer, married, with one clnltl. He was 37 years of age. The inquest was adjourned.
A YOUNCi BOY SCALDED. A painful accident occurred at IMiotu on Stiirdny afternoon, as (l,e result of whirl, a boy, aged about !) years, son of Mr. \\. 0. (,'reen, chairman of the Enliotu Dairy Company, was severely scalded, flic child was playing with an oil dram containing some water, which he had placed on a fire. The drum held a pins through which the steam would escape and make a hissing noise, the pipe acting as a safety valve. On Saturday the* vent probably got blocked, with the result that the bottom blew out of the oil' drum, and the lad received the rush of scalding steam on the chest. Ho was at owe conveyed to the New Plymouth' Hospital, where he is suffering severely irom the effects of the sealdings, and' also from shock.
