SPORTING.
TL'RF TOPICS, i " ~~ I (Notes by 'Moturoa.) Sir Alba lias been paid up for i'.e princi'pifl handicaps at I'eihling and Waipukurau 011 Easter Monday, and sprinters are wondering where thu lianilm>!t;e chestnut will he started. It may interest readers to know that Sir Allia was in Feilding yesterday (Friday), and will probably start there.
The, erstwhile Ilawera horse Encore is galloping nicely again, and will bo a runner in the Gimcrack Handicap at Riecartnn next week.
The Brighton Hurdles at Ellerslic today bears a very open appearance. Admiral Soult tops the list with 12.3, but may have some difficulty in conceding the Great Northern winner Te Onga 241b. Black Northern has won a few races at country meetings recently, but is very unreliable, and appears to lie handicapped right up to his best form. Spalperion is reported to be under a cloud, but if well would have to he reckoned with on the 10.S mark. Of the others engaged, Tragedy King and St. Lev,is stand out most prominently, and with Te Onga must be accounted most dangerous. Ladoga will have the services of Ben Bceley in the Great Autumn Handicap at Riccarton, and is being boomed for that event. Warstep has a big weight, hut on this season's form must surely be capable of giving Ladoga 101b over a mile and a half. Warstep is galloping in her usual brilliant style, and will certainly give a good account of I'erself.
An exchange 'states that Jneiirn just scrambled home on the first day lit Bu'ls, which is quite correct, Imt tlie writer might have explained that only for Incuru's rider trying a flash finish the Hawera mare would have won by several lengths. Cold Necklet, who paid a big dividend at Avondale recently, is showing great form on the tracks at present, and looks well treated in the President's Handicap with 21b above the minimum.
