'■ THE CRUCIFIXION."
PERFORMANCE BY THE WHITICLEY CHOIR.
For a siiiall choir .of some twenty-five voices to attempt Stainer's "Crucifixion" was an ambitious undertaking, but the Whitclcy Choir came through the ordeal last night with conspicuous success, and . the large congregation thoroughly appreciated the performance. " The CruciUxion," us the name implies, takes '' the Sacred Passion of Our Redeenier" as its theme, and the vocal score and musical setting harmonise with the Easter season. A feature of last night's performance was the fact that the whole of the work was undertaken by members of the choir itself. " The Crucifixion " is set for two solo voices, tenor and bass, but 110 fewer than eight members of the choir undertook the various soli, the majority of which wore rendered with the necessary pathos and feeling. Both the male choruses and those in which the female voices participated were well balanced and tuneful. The soloists were Messrs. Hogg, b. Blanehett, P. Hooker, A. Lee, W. Amlniry, Morrison, 11. Ainsworth, and E. Nelson Okey. The members of the choir are to be congratulated 011 the performance, and Mr. Alf Cray, conductor, is also entitled to a generous meed of praise. Mr. 0. H. White, as organist, played the beautiful music sympathetically.
