Mr. John Butement, J.P., an old resident of Mosterton, died in he Wellington Hospital on Thursday night. Deceased, who formerly followed farming pursuits in Otago, was 79 of age. One of hi, sons is Dr. W, H. Butement, formerly of Masterton.
Mr. P. A. Ongley, 8.A., lias been oppointed to succeed Mr. J. P. Mawson as assistant master.<at the Wellington College, the latter having volunteered for service ivt the front. Mr. Onglev is at present connected with the staff of the District High School at Eltham. Sister Barnitt, who sails from Wellington on Ann! Bth, has been connected with he NewPlymouth hospital during the past eight years, first as probationer and tlr-n as sister.
News has been received in Sydney of the death of Mr GcuTgo a firmer wool-buyer, of Sydney. Mr More 11 "! was one of the first to leave Sydney when war broke out, and served for four .months with the French troops. He was only 25 years of ago, and was womufci by shnipnel at Prrthes, on the eve of Lis tiicmotion to sub-lieutenant. He sub-scffi-uitly died fvjm tetanus at the Cbrmi ill Fcrrent Hospital
A large framed photograph' of the late Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Bloonyfioldt who for some time was chairman of tile Epsom Road Board, Auckland, has been placed in the hoard's office. Mr P, H. Wood, the chairman, in making- reference to this fact at a meeting of the board, said the photograph was presented to the board by members who had worked for years with Lieutenant-Col-onel Bloomfickl, as an appreciation of the services he had rendered to the district.
Information has been received of the death at Plymouth, England, of Mr Xclir Stacoy, an old resident of Wellington, arid one of the first settlers at Scatoun. He had' been ailing for some time previous to leaving for Kngland last year for the benefit of his health, and had undergone an operation rn a private hospital in Wellington. On arrival in Kngland he was forced to undergo two further operations, and he died on February 10. His wife, who accompanied him, is returning to Wellington.
