The Attack on Suez
TUB LATEST TURKISH ATTACK.
BREAKING THE MONOTONY.
Sydney, 'March 25.
Mr Bean cables that the German officer commanding the Turkish camp at Ueersheba a fortnight ago sent out an infantry battalion, a detachment of cavalry, and a few gun s to marcli to the southern end of the canal. The expedition seems to have been undertaken more with a view to relieving the extreme monotony of military life at Beersheba rather than any military object. It may be taken for certain that any real attack on the canal for many months is out of the question.
General von Traumer and three German officers accompanied the expedition. It was seen at Kabai, north of Suez, on Monday, when the guns opened fire. It then retired and camped eight miles back in the desert, where, early on Tuesday, General Younghushand routed ' it. A few prisoners were taken.
