The following Taranaki men have re,* turned from Samoa: Mace and Adlain, (New Plymouth), Sergt. Voyle (Strata ford).
Latest advices from Dr. A. A. Martin, from Rouen, state that as his time will soon be up he expects to be. back ia Palmerston very soon.

Mr. A. C. Eonaldson, of Wellington, and formerly a resident of New Ply-. mouth (where he fought during the Maori wars) died in Wellington on Sunflay.
John Bollard, ex-member died on Tuesday, afternoon, aged 75 years, after an operation which took plaoe on Sunday. Deceased leaves a widow, five, sons, and' ffive. daughters Auckland P.A. wire.
The death occurred at the Nelson lios- i pital on Friday of Mr. William E. Ham, ' whose son died in Egypt recently from ■ wounds received in action against the Turks. The deceased, who was a native of Ireland, belonged to a family which has numerous associations with the ' Army, not only in the past, but at the '-. present time. The cause of death was* ' pneumonia and heart failure.
Lieutenant-Colonel Pirie, who died on Friday at Parnell, Auckland, was at one time a famous riflo shot, and held many valuable trophies won in England and the Channel Islands. He was formerly , Major and Adjutant of the Ist Regiment " of the Royal Guernsey Militia. In 1870 Colonel Pirie caine to'Ncw Zealand,, and was for many years actively connected with the volunteer forces.
Mrs H. S. Hadfield, of Lindale, Paraparaumu, has (says the Otaki Mail) just received word that her brother, Captain H. P. Tuckey, has been promoted to the rank of major in the British Imperial Army. Major Tuckey has seen considerable" service in Africa, and is at present engaged in dealing with the German disturbnnc.es in West Africa. He is in command of the force allotted for this work.
Another of Wanganui's .old residents f has passed to his rest in the person o£ Mr. William Nettleship, who died on Sunday at the age of seventy-seven years. The deceased gentleman, who was one of the best known jewellers in the Dominion, left his home in England when he was only fourteen years of ago.. He whs In Australia for some time, and then came to Auckland, where ho spent some years. He arrived in Wangaimi about thirty-five years ago, and during' his long residence in the town earned the "respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact.
