The death is announced of Mr. John Clifford, an old resident of Greymouth. Mr; and Mrs. W. 0. Weston returned yesterday from their honeymoon trip.

It is understood that the UnderSecretary for Internal Affaire, Mr. Hislop, will visit New Plymouth shortlj r . Mr. and Mrs. J. Grant received at telegram on Monday stating that their son "Alt" had arrived in Wellington from Samoa.

The. Duncdin correspondent of the. Lyttelton Times telegraphs that the vacant Crown solicitorship there, has been conferred on Mr. W. C. Macgregor.

The members of the HaWera Fire Brigade, together with friends and visiting firemen, tendered Deputyi-Snperintend-ent J. Champion a complimentary dinner on Friday evening on the occasion of '.lis having completed twenty-five years' continuous service as a fireman. The Deputy-Superintendent was silso presented with the United Fire Brigades Association's gold 'star, one of the highest honors that can be gained by a fireman in New Zfcaland.
